Corey S. Pressman, integrative health and wellness, presented Haiku: The Poetic Moment in the Medical Encounter at the 37th Annual Foundation for Medical Excellence Pain Management Conference. The session introduced the practice of haiku as a means of engaging in active listening, gaining narrative competence, and discovering a deeper understanding of patient stories of suffering.

Greg Peterson, student wellness, will present two original research projects and one committee charge presentation on October 15 at the Western Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (WACES) conference. The research presentations are titled “Exploring the Relationship Between Perceived Supervisor Competence and Counselor Burnout” and preliminary findings on Peterson’s dissertation “Construction and Validation of the Climate-Aware Counselor Scale.” The committee charge is for the WACES Sustainability and Climate Change Committee and presenting on “Climate Change & Mental Health: Proposed Counselor Training, Competencies, and Curriculum.” Peterson will also be providing continuing professional development for counselors through a presentation titled “Trauma and Climate Crisis: an Introduction to the Threat Amplifier and Trauma Magnifier” on November 19 at the Annual Oregon Counseling Association Conference.
