Britney Kawakami (’19) is the first author of a peer-reviewed publication with Sabrina Legaspi (’20), Deirdre Hon, education, and Sarina Saturn, psychological sciences, entitled, “Exploring the Complexity of Coping Strategies Among People of Different Racial Identities.” It appeared in a journal dedicated to Psi Chi, the International Honors Society in Psychology, was awarded a 2021 Psi Chi Macmillan Diversity Article Award, and is featured in Psi Chi’s magazine, Eye on Psi Chi.
Lauren Berger, psychological sciences, received a 2021 Asian American Psychological Association – Division on Multiracial and Adopted Asian Americans (DMAA) Award to support her research on multiracial identity, critical consciousness, political efficacy, and participation in national social movements that focus on race, ethnicity, and discrimination.
Dave Houglum, director of leadership and leadership professor of practice, Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, presented (virtually) two invited leadership presentations for the European Leadership Programme (https://www.jesc-elp.eu/) in Brussels, Belgium with colleague Taireez Niswander. The first presentation (two hours) was titled “Walking Your Why: Leading with Values and Purpose” and given on October 14, 2021. The second presentation (three hours) was titled “Reconceptualizing Leadership for a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous World: Making a Positive Impact Through Servant Leadership and Accompaniment” and given on October 16, 2021.
