Ösel Plante, PhD, English, published a poem entitled “Self Portrait As Daughter Stuffed With A Stack Of Pomegranates.” Her poetry and flash fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in Best New Poets 2017 and 2019, the Best Small Fictions 2016 anthology. Her first book Waveland was published by Black Lawrence Press in 2021. The UP Bookstore will be hosting a reading for Waveland in October 2021.
Students working with Lauren Berger and Sarina Saturn, psychological sciences, presented their BIPOC research projects at the 6th Biennial Conference of the Society for the Psychological Study of Culture, Ethnicity and Race (Division 45 of the American Psychological Association), July 8 – 10, 2021 (Virtual). This year’s theme was entitled, “Structural Racism: Resilience, Resistance, and New Insights.” The students were Jaycie Chan (BIO), Carolina Cortes (PSY), Mati Hébert (SOC; also with Martin Monto), Andre Jaurigui (PSY), and Max Oishi (PSY). Four of these students received scholarships to attend the conference and APA Division 45 membership for January 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022.
