Jacqueline Van Hoomissen, biology, is serving as an invited participant on Portland Metro STEM Partnership’s Action Learning Team on Addressing Inequities and Disparities in STEM Education. The Learning Team’s potential outcomes include curating and elevating cultural funds of knowledge, defining professional learning needs of educators, and recommending policies that address inequities and disparities in STEM education.
Bob Butler, Professor Emeritus of environmental studies, published an animation “Japan 10th Anniversary of 2011 Earthquake—Lessons learned from Seismogeodesy”. This animation explains the plate tectonics, seismology, and GPS observations of the March 11, 2011 magnitude 9.1 Tohoku-oki, Japan earthquake and resulting tsunami. It also explores lessons learned for earthquake early warning and tsunami warning systems in subduction zones worldwide.
Salvador Orara, innovation, was featured in the AIGA Design Teaching Resource Guide for his contribution of project briefs for interdisciplinary teams to utilize design in tackling wicked problems. AIGA is the oldest and largest professional association for design.
Genevieve Brassard, English, has published a review of Modernism, Sex, and Gender, by Celia Marshik and Allison Pease, in the latest issue of The Space Between Journal (Volume 16, 2020).
