Alice Gates, sociology & social work, is the 2019-2020 recipient of the Distinguished Contribution to Sociological Praxis Award given by the Pacific Sociological Association. This award honors sociological work in the Pacific region that has made a positive impact on social institutions, improved organizational performance, contributed to community betterment, and/or eased human suffering. Gates was recognized in particular for her applied scholarship and student engagement efforts focused on advocacy for mothers and caregivers and in support of Latinx communities in Oregon.
