Rebecca Gaudino, theology, Barbara Braband, nursing, and Anissa Rogers, social work, published “Entering Into Suffering: Becoming a Transformed and Transforming Healer” in the Journal of Christian Nursing (January-March, 2017, Volume 34, Number1). The piece is also featured on the journal’s cover.
Sharon Jones, engineering, presented “Overcoming Challenges to Infusing Ethics into the Development of Engineers” at the National Academy of Engineering, January 2017.
David De Lyser, performing and fine arts, had one of his original choral compositions, Hosanna Filio David, chosen for inclusion and performed on the Cascadia Composers’ “Desire for the Sacred” concert, January 21st, 2017 at Agnes Flanagan Chapel, Lewis & Clark College. The piece was performed by The Resonance Ensemble, a professional, Portland-based choir.
Tisha Morrell, education, attended the Association for Science Teacher Education Conference held in Des Moines, Iowa, in January. She presented a poster on behalf of herself and Stephanie Salomone, mathematics, entitled “Impact of Robert Noyce Scholarship on Teacher Recruitment,” participated in a panel discussion with E. Pyle and Meredith Kier on “Lessons Learned from Robert Noyce Scholarship Programs,” and participated in a Town Hall discussion by the joint ASTE/NSTA Committee she leads on “Teacher Preparation Standards to Meet the NRC Framework for K-12 Education.” She also officially began her term as president-elect of the ssociation.
Andrew Guest, psychological sciences, was an invited presenter at the US Youth Soccer Workshop in Los Angeles, offering one session on ‘Soccer and Social Change’, another session on ‘Teaching Character through Soccer’, and also presenting a research poster titled ‘Where Women’s Professional Soccer Matters: Lessons for Women’s Sports Advocates from Research with Fans of the Portland Thorns.’
Katie O’Reilly, biology, (with Richter MM, Barnes BM, Fenn AM, Buck CL) published an article, “The influence of androgens on hibernation phenology of free-living male arctic ground squirrels,” in Hormones and Behavior 89:92-97 (doi.org/10.1016/j.yhbeh.2016.12.007).
Mallie Kozy, nursing, and Karen Eifler, Garaventa Centyer, have been awarded a practice grant from Sigma Theta Tau international in the amount of $580. The grant is titled “Creating a model of spiritual intervention for novice practitioners of palliative care.” Kozy and Eifler will create a series of short videos using images from The Saint John’s Bible, original music, and readings from sacred and secular texts to be used to assist with spiritual care of individuals.
