Aziz Inan, engineering, published his article titled “Some Leland Jr. math brainteasers” on the Stanford University 125th Anniversary website, Stanford, California, October 13, 2016. Stanford University was founded in 1885 by Leland Jr.’s parents in his memory after he died of typhoid fever in Florence, Italy at age 15 in 1884 and it opened its doors to students on October 1, 1891. Anne Pitsch Santiago, political science, was invited to the University of Oregon to give a research talk as part of the African Studies Lecture Series. She presented “Land Use Change in Eastern Africa: Developing a Model of Regime Rhetoric and Framing the Debate over Land Use” at UO on Wednesday October 12. The lecture is based on research that Santiago has been conducting for the past year on how African leaders attempt to convince their people to follow the government’s lead on land use changes reflected in land laws and policies.
