The UP Active Minds chapter was awarded the Health Equity Award at the organization’s national conference in Washington, D.C. Active Minds is a national nonprofit organization that supports mental health awareness and education for young adults with over 600 chapters across the country. The University of Portland Active Minds chapter, which was started in 2015, hosts events and discussions to create awareness and elevate voices among the UP community.
According to Active Minds, the Health Equity Award “highlights a chapter that has centered its work around health equity, anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion. Now, more than ever, Active Minds chapters are serving as vital voices in campus conversations elevating and supporting Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), queer, and other marginalized communities.”
