In each issue of UPbeat, we’ll be sharing the focal points of the new Anchor Seminar (Core 101) being encountered by 100% of our first-year students. Leadership of each seminar session alternates between a student leader and a faculty member. Every week with a faculty member emphasizes one of the six habits nourished in the Revitalized Core, which is also commencing this year. Via this biweekly UPBeat feature, all faculty can have links to the main readings and videos their students are exploring, giving you a chance to amplify, draw upon, or just be in the loop. This week we are working on the Core Habit of Literacy, Dialogue & Expression. To that end, we are viewing Michael Patrick Lynch’s TED Talk “How to See Past Your Own Perspective and See Truth,” and reading Brian Doyle’s essay Joyas Voladores. If you would ever like to know more about what is going on in the Core Anchor Seminar, feel free to contact any of those teaching in this first round: Andrew Guest, Christi Hancock, Simon Aihiokai, Stephanie Salomone, Pat Hannon, CSC, Gregory Pulver, Lisa Reed, or Karen Eifler.
