Chapel Choir and Wind Symphony Concert: Feb. 17
The Wind Symphony and Chapel Choir will join forces for the fourth annual Junior Parents Weekend Chapel Concert on Saturday, February 17, at 3 p.m., in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. This year’s music includes Give Us This Day, composed by and in memory of Wind Symphony friend David Maslanka. A selection from the Chapel Choir will feature a performance on the “pipa,” an ancient Chinese instrument played by Tinglei Huang ’18. The two ensembles will combine for a “Kyrie” adapted from Beethoven’s 7th Symphony. Conducting associates Christina Beningfield ’18 and Kaileigh Grishaber ’18 make their conducting debuts in what promises to be an exceptional afternoon of music. Free and open to all.

Wind Symphony Concert, April 19
The UP Wind Symphony presents its final concert of the year on Sunday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Buckley Center Auditorium. Included on the program is the World Premiere of Shattering Infinity by Benjamin Taylor. The UP Wind Symphony is the lead commissioner of this piece and is joined in a consortium by such notable universities as Indiana University, San Diego State University, and the University of South Carolina. In addition, the Wind Symphony honors its graduating seniors in their final UP performance with a rousing performance of Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Marquez.

Wind Symphony and Orchestra Concert, Oct. 4
The University Wind Symphony and Orchestra will perform a concert on Saturday, October 4, at 7:30 p.m., in Buckley Center Auditorium. The concert is free and open to faculty, staff, students, and the public.
The Wind Symphony program looks at the use of humor in music, including Percy Grainger’s whimsical Country Gardens, Paul Hart’s Cartoon, and Jonathan Newman’s “bubblegum pop” piece Single, featuring senior vocalist Amelia Segler. Rounding out the program is John Mackey’s Aurora Awakes, one of the most significant band works thus far in the 21st century.
The University Orchestra will feature Margaret Brouwer’s stirring and elegiac tone poem, Remembrances, as well as student concerto competition winner David Yee playing Alexander Glazunov’s Concerto in E flat major for alto saxophone.
