Pollentia Expedition Planning/Info Sessions, Oct. 7

The UP Pollentia Expedition team has scheduled two information sessions on Wednesday, October 7, looking toward their 2016 expedition. The meetings will be at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Franz Hall Murphy Conference Room. Faculty, students, and staff who took part in the 2015 expedition in Mallorca, Spain will share stories and explore plans for Summer 2016. All are welcome to come join the adventure. Refreshments will be served.

Early Christian Baptism Lecture, May 28

All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend “The Archeological Footprint of Baptism in Early Byzantine Christianity,” a free lecture by Alejandro Santana, philosophy, and Rev. Richard Rutherford, C.S.C., theology (pictured), on Thursday, May 28, at 7 p.m., in St. Dimitrios Hall of Holy Trinity Cathedral, 3131 NE Glisan St. The lecture will explore the study of early Christian baptisms, specifically as they were celebrated in the first centuries of Christianity.

Ideas Welcome For 2015 Pollentia Expedition, Nov. 20

Those who missed the October presentation on the summer 2014 Pollentia expedition are invited to attend a presentation on the recent and future expeditions on Thursday, November 20, at 7:30 p.m., in Franz Hall Holy Cross Lounge. Expedition members Ray and Ronda Bard, Fr. Ron Wasowski, C.S.C., and Fr. Richard Rutherford, C.S.C, will share experiences from the recent expedition, which was spent excavating an early Christian cemetery in the ancient Roman city of Polllentia in Mallorca, Spain. Those who attend are invited to suggest ways to send future faculty and student research teams to Polllentia, beginning in summer 2015. Refreshments will be served. Sponsored by the provost, the Garaventa Center, and the Pollentia 2014 team.

A presentation with Rev. Richard Rutherford, C.S.C., theology emeritus, Ronda and Ray Bard, chemistry, and Rev. Ron Wasowski, C.S.C.,environmental studies, will take place on Friday, October 24, at 3:30 p.m., in the Holy Cross Lounge on the third floor of Franz Hall. The group will share their experiences excavating sites in early Christian Pollèntia in Roman Mallorca during summer of 2014.
