Annual UP Christmas Vespers Concert: Dec. 1
The annual University of Portland Choral holiday concert will take place on Saturday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. The concert will feature the University of Portland Singers, Bel Canto, the Trombone Ensemble and Hand Bell Choir, and readings, carols, hymns, and the music of Michael Praetorius, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Kim André Arnesen, Ola Gjeilo, Libby Larsen, Arvo Pärt, Randall Stroope, Zoltan Kodaly, René Clausen, Pavel Tchesnokov and others.

“Dr. Faustus” Pre-Play Panel and Reception, Nov. 17
The Garaventa Center warmly invites all ticket holders for the Saturday, November 17 performance of Dr. Faustus to a complimentary wine, cheese, and themed dessert reception as campus experts highlight what to look and listen for in the show. The performing and fine arts department will present Dr. Faustus by Christopher Marlowe, the classic legend of the Renaissance icon who sold his soul for knowledge and power, from November 14-18, at 7:30 p.m. (2 p.m. Sunday), in Mago Hunt Center Theater. Wind Symphony & Women’s Chorale, Nov. 17
The University of Portland Wind Symphony and Women’s Chorale will present a concert on Saturday, November 17, at 3 p.m., in Buckley Center Auditorium. No tickets are required.
The concert will feature Canadian composer Cait Nishimura for the world premiere of her newest piece, In Dreams, and a performance of Athabasca. In addition, the Women’s Chorale will perform the lively Japanese children’s song, Hotaru Koi and the Wind Symphony will present music from the film Spirited Away. The two ensembles will join together to perform Sigur Ros’ plaintive ára bátur, featuring UP saxophone and jazz professor Don Norton.

“Boeing Boeing” Opens Oct. 3
Andrew Golla, performing and fine arts, will direct “Boeing Boeing” by Marc Camoletti with performances on October 3-7 at 7:30 p.m. (2 p.m. Sunday) in Mago Hunt Center Theater. Described as “An uproarious farce set in 1960s Paris,” the play has been listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most performed French play throughout the world.
