Open Educational Resources

The Library has rescheduled its OER session, Open Educational Resources: Access, Affordability, Inclusion, & Academic Success, for March 14 at 2 p.m. in the Library Classroom (map). Join UP librarians Christina Prucha and Philip Vue to learn more about OER and how to find them.  

Also, this week is Open Education Week (March 6–10), and Open Oregon Educational Resources is hosting several interesting and free presentations. Here is a sample of webinars that might be of interest: 

• OER 101: Getting Started with Open Educational Resources Are you interested in exploring OER for your course, but don’t know where to start? Join Abbey Elder, Open Access & Scholarly Communication Librarian, Iowa State University, for an introduction. March 6, 12–1 p.m. 
• Equity and Open Education Faculty Panel Jen Klaudinyi, Library Faculty at Portland Community College, facilitates a panel of Oregon instructors who have adopted open educational practices with an equity lens. March 8, 12. 
• Open Ed Week Keynote: Harnessing the Resilience Within with Mays Imad In this 90-minute session, Mays Imad will draw on the neurobiology of learning to examine the intimate relationship between equity, radical hospitality, and trauma-informed education. March 10, 2–3:30 p.m.

Open textbooks and Open Educational Resources (OER) can enhance student success by reducing the cost of course materials and ensuring that all students have access to course readings. You are invited to join Clark Library librarians Christina Prucha and Philip Vue for a one-hour, in-person discussion to learn more about this possible alternative to high-cost textbooks and how you can participate in this movement.
