The development office has announced the resignation of Kathy Kendall Johnston as director of foundation development. Kathy has been with the University and the Office of Development for fifteen years. At this time in her career, she has reached the decision to transition from full-time employment.
During her tenure at UP, Kathy was instrumental in writing hundreds of grants totaling over $45 million. She worked closely with faculty, staff, and academic and university leadership and enjoyed positive relationships with a number of foundations in the Portland metropolitan area, including the Murdock Trust, Meyer Memorial Trust, Collins Foundation, and the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund. She wrote grants to raise funding for scholarships, buildings, campus-wide initiatives, equipment, conferences, special programs, athletics, and student-faculty research.
Kathy also played an important role in successfully securing grants from national funders, including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, W.M. Keck Foundation, E.L. Wiegand Foundation, and the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.
Kathy cares deeply about the UP community, and given her knowledge and expertise, she hopes to be a resource in the future. Her last day will be Wednesday, July 15.
A farewell celebration will be held in her honor on Tuesday, July 7, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., on the Bauccio Commons patio (departing co-worker Eileen Pettycrew will be honored as well). Please join in extending our heartfelt thanks to Kathy for her years of service and best wishes for her new transition.
