After 15 years of serving as the welcoming face of the departments of English and performing and fine arts (not to mention international languages and cultures), office manager Jewell Yaguchi will be retiring from the University of Portland. All are invited to wish her a fond farewell at her retirement party on Thursday, June 12, from 3 to 4 p.m., in Buckley Center room 163.
Jewell has been the constant stalwart of her departments and is always ready with a smile and friendly ear, as well as a piece of chocolate or some other sweet treat from one of her candy jars. She will be sorely missed since she is one of the few people on campus who knows where all the pianos are hidden; she makes department events run like clockwork; and she is always willing to help a student to get into a practice room or art class. Jewell will be moving to the Olympia, Washington area to be closer to her family and grandchildren.
For more information contact performing and fine arts at 7228 or pfa@up.edu—it may be your last chance to hear Jewell’s calming voice answer the PFA phones.
