While the University’s Strategic Plan Vision 2020 (D) states that UP should “Infuse our entire community with a sense of internationalization and diversity, and more specifically centralize university-wide opportunities and curricula supporting internationalization,” the question of how to go about doing this at the classroom level still remains, according to Kimberly Ilosvay, education.
There are many intercultural curricula that facilitate perspective-taking, inclusion, and ethical commitments to world peace, but the UP community is lucky enough to have an institute dedicated to intercultural communication here in Portland, Ore. The Intercultural Communication Institute (ICI) is a nonprofit charity with the mission of fostering an awareness and appreciation of cultural difference in both the international and domestic arenas. The institute has many resources available online that cover many topics involving intercultural exchanges as well as a plethora of activities ready for adaption and use.
