Elect Her, the program that trains college womxn to run for student government and future office, will come to the University of Portland for the first time during the Fall 2021 semester.
Running Start, a nonpartisan nonprofit, will run its one-day training, Elect Her. Womxn make up 50% of the population, but less than 1 in 4 elected leaders are womxn. When womxn run, they win at the same rates as men – the problem is that not enough womxn run. Research shows that engaging womxn early is key to increasing the number of womxn in public office.
Since 2009, 400+ Elect Her trainings have been held with 162 partners in 43 states & 9 countries for 15,000+ young women. Watch this testimonial from alum Meghan Pearce on CBS News, from the 2018 Women Leaders Global Forum in Reykjavik, Iceland.
