Join UP’s Constructive Dialogues at our continued series of events this Fall.
Oct 28 @ 3 p.m. DB Auditorium “Ask a Professor: Israel-Palestine”
Professors Jeff Meiser and Anne Santiago will answer your questions about events in the Middle East region. We can help unpack most recent violence between Israel, Hamas, and Hezbollah, and give historical context to the current challenges and help explain the military, humanitarian, and international law components of the war. We know this is a sensitive topic for many, so we hope the contextualization will be helpful, and we offer this session as a constructive way to discuss the serious consequences of these events. Sponsored by the Political Science and Global Affairs Department and Constructive Dialogues.
Dr. Santiago recorded this lecture on Conflict, Human Rights, and Nature: The River Jordan Case Study last spring for the Core Imagining Our Futures Course. You are welcome to review it for context ahead of the Open Forum.

Join VoteUP, BridgeUP, Constructive Dialogues and the Health and Counseling Center in watching the election results as they come in on Tuesday, November 5. Everyone has a chance to win a door prize based on election outcomes! While the Presidential race is on everyone’s radar, there are also state and local races of importance this election season. Portland has a new government structure and there are 5 Oregon Ballot measures and 5 Portland city Ballot initiatives. Here is a guide to the upcoming elections from OPB.

Nov 6 @ 4:30 p.m. DB Aud “Election Decompression Session: Discussion and Q&A”
All faculty, staff, and students are invited to join Dr. Santiago, Prof. Cole Grisham and other Pol faculty to unpack election results on Wednesday, November 6. We can answer questions, share our thoughts, and consult, commiserate, or express our hope for the future, depending on your political orientation and satisfaction with the outcomes. We are providing a space to decompress, not gloat or blame. Emotions are welcome and the discussion will be guided by agreed upon community standards. Sponsored by Constructive Dialogues, Political Science and Global Affairs, and the Garaventa Center.
