Speaker Event: Nathan Lents, PhD, author of “The Sexual Evolution” (Apr. 15)

The Biology and Psychology departments are excited to co-host Nathan Lents, PhD, author and professor of Biology at John Jay College of Criminology at City University of New York (CUNY).

Tuesday, April 15, at 12 p.m. | DB 004

His talk, “The Role of Sex and Gender Diversity in Social Adaptation and Ecological Resilience,” comes on the heels of his newly released book, The Sexual Evolution. Lents will also be speaking at Powell’s City of Books at 7 p.m. on April 15.

Stephanie Salomone, Mathematics, was appointed to the Mathematical Association of America Committee on Teaching Undergraduate Mathematics Equity Pedagogies Working Group. Dave Houglum, Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, delivered an invited presentation titled “Strategic Self-Awareness and Relational Agility: Applying the DiSC Framework to Strengthen Human Resources Leadership” on August 11, 2025, for the University of Portland Human Resources team. Poulami Mitra, Biology, hosted Saturday Academy’s “Caretaking Creators” camp in Swindells Hall, from July 28-Aug 1, 2025. Students spent the week immersed in lab-based learning as they explored topics in biology, anatomy, and physiology through hands-on activities and exciting projects such as labeling skeleton, skull, and heart models. Students also had an opportunity to dissect owl pellets with Stephanie Salomone and creating tumor extraction models and budget-restricted stethoscopes with OHSU’s Katherine Mijal.
