University of Portland collections technology librarian Bonnie Parks has been named as the 2016 recipient of the Ulrich’s Serials Librarianship Award for her distinguished contributions to serials librarianship. The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services division of the American Library Association makes the award each year to a leader in the field. The award will be presented at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony on June 25 during the 2016 American Library Association Annual Conference and Exposition in Orlando, Florida.
Parks has been described as a model for her profession, balancing research, publication, and engagement within professional organizations with teaching and mentoring to help move the profession forward. Parks’ scholarship contributions include two book chapters, publications, presentations, and editorship of the “Serials Conversations” column in Serials Review for nine years. Her history of professional service includes leadership positions and active participation in organizations such as North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG) and the American Library Association’s Association for Libraries Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) Continuing Resources Section, for which she is currently chairing the Standards Committee. She is a recognized leader in the Orbis Cascade Alliance, where she has contributed expertise with serials cataloging. She joined the UP faculty in 2007.
