We would like to ask you to recommend 1-2 students for the Outstanding Contributions to Diversity Award. The award goes out to one student each year who has personally contributed to anti-racist efforts on campus. It is awarded by the Diversity and Inclusion Committee (DIC), a committee composed of students and staff.
Please consider sharing the names of 1-2 students who you feel have made significant contributions in diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of Portland, whether it be through their involvement in on-campus or online activities, in the classroom, and/or through their participation in leadership service outside of the classroom. Which student(s) stand out to you as leaders in our efforts to make our campus more diverse and inclusive? Please also include a brief summary of why you are nominating them (2-4 paragraphs). This brief statement will be a consideration for the committee when selecting a recipient.
This award is open to current first-years, sophomores, and juniors, and the recipient will be awarded $1,500. The award will be for the 2022-2023 academic year.
The nominated students will be invited to answer a short application, which will be reviewed by the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Once selected, the student will be recognized virtually this year.
All student nominations are due by Tuesday, February 8, to Jennifer Vourlas, vourlas@up.edu.
