We are so happy that Cheston has joined our team, and we can’t wait for you to enjoy his writing in Portland magazine. For more than a decade, he was the managing editor of Tin House magazine and the executive director of The Tin House Summer Workshop. He published his essay collection Up Up, Down Down in 2018 (writer Anthony Doer called it “always smart, often hilarious, and ultimately transcendent”), and for about five years he taught literary nonfiction at Lewis & Clark College. Cheston is also a photographer. His work was recently selected for the 2022 Pacific Northwest Drawers exhibition at Blue Sky Gallery. He lives in North Portland with his wife and son, and he recently learned that coaching tee-ball brings him joy.
