Senior mechanical engineering student Matthew Dally placed second in the engineering poster competition at the 9th Annual Sigma Xi Columbia-Willamette Chapter Research Symposium on April 12 at Portland State University. Matthew’s poster, “Nonlinear Parametric Health Monitoring of a Slender Cantilever Beam Subject to Non-Stationary Excitation” described a method to accurately track the health and predict the catastrophic failure of an aluminum beam subjected to vibrations called NMT. The symposium provides an opportunity for students to display research they have conducted in the sciences, social sciences, and engineering. For more information go to http://tinyurl.com/cqsot6z.
