Faculty and staff are invited to attend a presentation and discussion, with lunch included, about challenging classroom conversations on Friday, April 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Murphy Room 426.
The student body is diversifying at a faster pace than faculty demographics and students want to connect classroom experiences to present day phenomena. As a result, faculty members are likely to encounter socially challenging or politically charged topics in classroom discussions. Intentionally planning for those conversations can help minimize the discomfort experienced by some students (and faculty). In this second lunch workshop, Lauren Alfrey, Sociology, and Layla Garrigues, Nursing, will discuss frameworks and suggestions for how to prepare, manage and follow up on those discussions to support more effective learning.
Seats are limited and available on a first response basis, so please RSVP to Terry Favero (favero@up.edu) by April 7 to reserve your spot for this enriching conversation.
