The Nursing 492 class invites you to join us on November 1, from 5-7:00 p.m. on the quiet side of Commons for a Death Café. We recognize the diverse ways in which members of the University of Portland campus have encountered death in their own lives. The UP Death Café will serve as a place where our community can freely and willingly discuss their thoughts, dreams, and fears about dying and grief in an intimately cultivated space filled with tea, cake, and art. We hope that our community members can safely confront their lived experiences with death while not feeling limited to talking about their experiences in an abstract, metaphorical way.
We welcome everyone from the UP community to join us, regardless of their major or personal experiences with death and dying. Honoring, validating, and being a compassionate witness to everyone’s story requires that we commit to non-discriminatory behaviors. Personal reflection upon our biases and appreciating the perspectives of each person regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, class, and religious identity is essential to cultivating open and honest conversation. This is a space where diversity, equality, and inclusion are paramount to embracing our community. We ask that only participants who are willing to abide by this agreement take part in this event.
Food and drinks will be provided, to guarantee snacks and seats, please RSVP here:
