Effective 2016, the State of Oregon implemented a new sick time law. UP has updated its Staff Sick Time Policy to be consistent with this law as well as employer best practices.
Some notable changes with the sick time policy are:
- Allowed uses of sick time have been expanded (e.g., sick time can now be used to care for a sick grandparent or grandchild, certain situations involving domestic violence, and certain situations related to public health emergencies).
- New regular staff employees do not have to wait 90 days to use sick time.
- Non-regular temporary, casual, and seasonal employees now accrue sick time at a rate of 1 sick time hour for every 30 hours worked.
- There are changes to the sick time payout policy.
