New to The Bluff—Denise Ramsden, Assistant Director of the Pacific Alliance for Catholic Education, School of Education

The School of Education is pleased to introduce the new Assistant Director of the Pacific Alliance for Catholic Education, Denise Ramsden! Denise has worked in Catholic education since 2004 in an array of instructional and mentoring roles throughout that time. She has been a University Supervisor in the U.P. School of Ed. since 2021. New to the Bluff—Dhara Brown, Executive Assistant to the Vice President, Marketing & Communications

The Division of Marketing and Communications recently welcomed Dhara Brown to the role of Executive Assistant to the Vice President at the end of March. Dhara graduated from American University in Washington, DC, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Foreign Language (French Language & Cultural Studies) and Communications Media (Film & Media Arts).

A New Imagination on Migration with Fr. Daniel Groody C.S.C. (Jun. 12)

Campus Ministry, in association with Catholic Charities, will host Fr. Daniel Groody who will discuss the subject of migration along with his most recent book, “A Theology of Migration: The Bodies of Refugees and the Body of Christ.” Rev. Groody’s insightful perspective on the narrative of migrants and human rights is grounded in decades of world travel and ministry, along with his service on the U.S. Catholic bishops’ committee on migration. Reminder: Please Load Scholarly Activity on the Portal

Faculty members are reminded to load their scholarly activity on the portal in PilotsUP by May 31 each year. Faculty members use their school’s report on the home tab of the Scholarly Activity Portal to send the data to their respective deans as a part of annual self-evaluation. (Read More).

A Mindful Reflection: with Karen Eifler, PhD (May 16)

Karen Eifler, PhD, outgoing Director of the Garaventa Center, will share her insights on the value of the work we do at UP and beyond in her talk: “Oui, Whee, We: Or Why Work at a Catholic, Holy Cross Place Like UP?” This 20-minute talk will be recorded for future reference, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with the topic. Now Recruiting Faculty: NEH Grant for Ethics and AI

Building on several successful College of Arts and Sciences initiatives that bring together Ethics and Artificial Intelligence in conversation, CAS is now planning an application for a National Endowment for the Humanities funding opportunity, which would fund the creation of a Humanities Research Center on Artificial Intelligence. We are currently recruiting all interested faculty (Humanities, Social Sciences and beyond) to join a planning committee that will develop this grant. (Read More).
