So many events are coming up! Do you need a social media icon to align with the University brand? Check out ShareUP and the social media icon template, which can save you loads of time designing a UP approved icon.

Directions: 

• Simply fill in the text box with your department or organizational name. 
• “Save” and preview your design. Make modifications if needed.

The Holy Cross brothers and priests enthusiastically invite our faculty and staff colleagues to join us once again in the Holy Cross Dining Room (HCDR) for Wednesday lunch beginning November 10. We have missed having you with us!

With our friends at Bon Appétit we are pleased to invite you on Wednesdays during the remainder of the Fall 2021 semester. It is our hope to expand the invitation next spring—stay tuned! As we begin gathering together again, a few reminders to help us preserve a pleasant dining environment for everyone:

1. Lunch is available Wednesdays in the HCDR from 11:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. For Fall 2021 the HCDR will only be open for lunch on Wednesdays. (Bon Appétit is still experiencing significant staffing issues due to the pandemic.) We will hope to open up more regularly for guests in Spring 2022. The HCDR is located in the back hallway of the Commons beyond the double doors near the dish return.
2. This invitation is for faculty and staff only. This preserves the privacy of the HCDR and allows us to gather with colleagues and friends without undergraduates present. If you would like to have lunch with an undergraduate, please use the Pilot House or the main Commons dining room.
3. Please refrain from the use of cell phones and other devices in the HCDR. To help us preserve the intimate and communal nature of our dining room, thank you for stepping into the hallway to take phone calls or to view media that requires sound.
4. Lunch costs $10 and includes unlimited buffet and beverages while you are in the HCDR. To help keep costs down, please do not take any leftovers or carryout items with you. This price is equitable to what Holy Cross pays for our own lunch in HCDR; Bon App has worked hard to keep lunch affordable for us all.
5. Tables are not to be reserved for lunch meetings. This helps us preserve a more congenial atmosphere
   for dining with colleagues and friends. Please use the Pilot House or the main Commons dining room for
   lunch meetings.
6. COVID protocols are posted in the HCDR. These will be continuously updated to align with university
   policy. Thank you for your care to keep us all safe.

November is Native American Heritage Month and celebrates the ancestry and traditions of the people indigenous to what is now the continental United States. The Clark Library has curated a selection of related books, eBooks, and streaming videos from our collection for you to explore further. They are featured on the display shelf near the library service desk and online. The eBooks and streaming videos are available to UP faculty, students, and staff from anywhere at any time. Items on the display shelf are available to check out and borrow. Enjoy!

We are pleased to announce that Rachel Worthy has joined the Office of Student Activities as the Associate Director for Student Engagement. Rachel earned her master’s degree in student affairs at Colorado State University and has over seven years of experience supporting and advising college students through a variety of orientation, training, retention, and career development programs. In her previous role as academic coordinator at WSU-Vancouver, she worked with students from admission to graduation, problem-solving and removing barriers to student success. We are excited to have Rachel focus her energy on supporting ASUP Executive Board, ASUP Senate, ASUP Services, civic engagement, and more. Please join us in welcoming Rachel!

Mariza Rayfield has joined the Office of Student Activities as our new Program Coordinator for Student Engagement. Mariza is joining us with extensive event-planning experience with Bridal Bliss in Lake Oswego and leadership experience as a Jewish Changemaker Fellow for the Jewish Federation of North America. Mariza completed her bachelor of science in education at Linfield College and is planning on enrolling in our master of arts in higher education program here at UP.  We are excited to have Mariza focus her energy on our Pilots After Dark program, Campus Program Board, and more. Please join us in welcoming Mariza.

All members of the UP community are invited to join for cupcakes and a conversation with Beth Burns, co-founder of Portland’s p:ear organization, to celebrate the birthday of the co-founder of the Catholic Worker Movement, Dorothy Day, on Monday, November 8, at 7:15 p.m. Through social activism and Catholic social teachings, Day worked for social justice for the poor, forsaken, hungry, and houseless. P:ear continues this work to support Portland youth who are moving through and beyond homelessness. This will be a hybrid event. The UP Staff Senate Working Group cordially invites all University Portland Staff to participate in the organization of the UP Staff Senate. The purpose of the Staff Senate is to embody the University of Portland’s mission by advocating for and recognizing UP Staff as an integral aspect of the University’s excellence. The Senate aims to support and retain a diverse community of staff members, especially those from historically underrepresented groups.

We are currently seeking members in two key groups:

·   UP Staff Senate Working Group, which will guide the Senate and meet regularly as we prepare to launch in the Spring 2022. 

·   Volunteer Members, who will meet intermittently to review items crafted by the Working Group and offer suggestions regarding next steps.

The annual Silent Auction fundraiser, December 1-3, will benefit the Moreau Center for Service and Justice’s Civil Rights and the Community Organizing and Resistance (CORE) Immersions. Donations are the backbone to the success of this annual fundraising event, so we need faculty and staff help. People may donate individually or as a group. We appreciate a wide range of items, from inexpensive to expensive, purchased or handcrafted, gifts of time or services, gently used items in great condition, or gift cards large or small. 

We request that items be delivered to the Moreau Center for Service & Justice office in St. Mary’s before Thanksgiving. If you can email Tyler Wagner at wagnert@up.edu to notify him in advance about your donation, that is appreciated, too. Thank you in advance for your support.

The University’s 2021 Open Enrollment period runs from Monday, November 1, through Monday, November 15, 2021. This is the time to either confirm or change medical and dental coverage, enroll in supplemental life insurance, and elect flexible spending accounts (FSA) for the coming 2022 calendar year.

The Open Enrollment Forms and the FSA Enrollment Form will be available on the HR website starting the first day of Open Enrollment.
