New to The Bluff: Eric Perez, Financial Aid Counselor
Eric Perez has been hired as a new financial aid counselor. Prior to this position, he worked at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He loves to play soccer, go to concerts, and ride his bike outside of work.

New to the Bluff: Hannah Katibah, Financial Aid Counselor
Hannah Katibah has been hired as a new financial aid counselor. Prior to this position, she served as program assistant in the UP Career Education Center for the past three years. She also recently completed a master’s degree in postsecondary, adult & continuing education at Portland State University. Outside of work, she loves to hike, garden, read, and go on adventures with her dog.

New to The Bluff: Andrew Christensen, Visiting Instructor, Theater
Andy Christensen is a fiercely curious artist-educator who specializes in emergent forms of immersive and site-informed theatre that explore the intersection of place and time. In his practice, he builds egalitarian ensembles that create interdisciplinary, research-driven, and process-shaped performances that put audiences at the center of artistic experiences and contextualize performance within community. After receiving his M.F.A. in theatre directing from the Lir Academy of Trinity College in Dublin and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Andy returned to the United States to invest in emerging artists in the Pacific Northwest. He is a founder of Cascadia Art Project and a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. He has mentored artists in many regional high schools, George Fox University, Pacific University, and most recently at Whitworth University where he was recognized for outstanding integration of vocation in the classroom.
New to The Bluff: Christine Gallagher, Instructor, School of Nursing
Christine Gallagher graduated from the University of Portland with a bachelor of science in nursing in 2003. Prior to returning to the University as a faculty member, she worked in a variety of settings including labor and delivery, infection prevention, and clinical informatics. Christine graduated from Western Governors University with a master of science in nursing education in 2018. She works as a certified cardiac rehabilitation R.N. and is enrolled in the University of Portland doctor of nursing practice – family nurse practitioner (D.N.P.-F.N.P.) degree program. Throughout her career Christine has enjoyed the opportunity to serve as an educator in the clinical setting and looks forward to teaching and supporting nursing students in the academic setting. Her specific healthcare-related interests include health promotion, preventative care, and building communities to support health. Christine enjoys gardening and yoga and spending time with family, friends, and her dog.
New to the Bluff: M.S.G. Daniel Ramirez, Senior Military Instructor, Army ROTC
Before coming to the University of Portland, M.S.G. Daniel Ramirez served as the First Sergeant for First Army Headquarters, Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois. M.S.G. Ramirez has held various leadership positions throughout a 19-year career in the Army that have ranged from Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Scout Platoon Sergeant, Ranger Instructor, Operations Sergeant, and First Sergeant. His military education includes the Basic Airborne Course, Air Assault Course, Rappel Master Course, Army Combative LV I, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Master Resilience Course, Tactical Certification Course, Basic Instructor Course, Warriors Leadership Course, Advanced and Senior Leaders Course and Ranger School. M.S.G. Ramirez is also currently pursuing a degree in ministry leadership. During his military career he has lived in some unique locations, including Buamholder, Germany, the island of Oahu, Hawaii, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, LeClaire, Iowa and served three tours in Iraq. M.S.G. Ramirez resides in Washington with his family. During his off time, he is very active in his church, loves spending time with his family and working out.
New to the Bluff: Kindra Scanlon, Asst. Professor, School of Nursing
Before joining the University of Portland faculty, Kindra Scanlon served as the lead advanced practice provider for the OHSU plastic and reconstructive surgery team and has a background in primary care, urgent care, and preoperative medicine. Kindra earned a B.S.N. and M.S.N. from OHSU and a D.N.P. – F.N.P. from the University of Portland. She loves to teach and mentor students in the clinic. In the past, Kindra has served on the Oregon Nurses’ Association and Nurse Practitioners of Oregon Board of Directors. She is currently serving on the International Council of Nurses Advanced Practice Nursing Communications group. She is also president elect for the OHSU Beta Psi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. A published author, Kindra also holds a bachelor of fine arts and enjoys writing, painting, and carving wood in her free time. She additionally speaks German, Russian, and limited French and enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
On-Campus Kaiser Flu Shot Clinic for Employees
Never has it been so important to get your flu shot!! Employees who are covered by the University’s medical plans through Kaiser may get a flu shot through the Human Resources sponsored Kaiser flu shot clinic on Thursday September 30, 2021, 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Flu shots will be available on a reservation only basis. Unfortunately, due to limited slots we will not be able to accommodate spouses or children, employees only. Please click on the link below and select a timeslot that fits your schedule. There are two – four slots available for each 5-minute increment. The link is a shared worksheet. Please enter in your name and e-mail address next to the time you would like to receive your shot and then close, you do not need to save the document. If you are not comfortable with adding your name to the list for confidentiality reasons please e-mail benefits@up.edu with your preferred time and we will try to add it to the schedule. Once slots are full we will close access to the sign up sheet, but you can reach out to benefits@up.edu to be put on a waitlist.

The clinic will be held in the outdoor tent in the Library courtyard. COVID-19 precautions will be in place and all attendees will be required to wear a mask and maintain 6ft distance between others. The nurses administering the shots will thoroughly clean each station between attendees. A confirmation email will be sent closer to the clinic date which will contain specific information on arrival times and required paperwork.
If the onsite clinic date does not work with your schedule, please note that flu shots will be available starting September 28, 2021, thru Kaiser. Members can schedule an appointment at kp.org/flu. Flu shots will be available by appointment only.

Clark Library: Special Collections
Did you know that you can view rare religious books from the library’s Special Collections? They are on display in the bookcase by the fireplace study lounge on the lower floor of the Clark Library. See beautiful books from the 1500s to 1900s that are bound in vellum (animal skin) or leather; books with gold and abalone decorations on the covers; and illuminated manuscripts.
