Title IX Trainings for the UP Community (Feb. 28)

On February 28, our Title IX Coordinator (Ann James) will be at the University of Portland to provide our community the following TIX trainings (to be held in Franz 120).  The following two trainings are offered:

What is involved in a Title IX investigation? (10:30 AM to 12:00 PM)

Have you wondered what goes into a Title IX investigation and whether serving as an investigator would be a good fit for you? Ann will discuss the procedural requirements of these processes; the time and energy commitments of serving in the role of investigator; and how to assist students who are involved in an investigation.

Guiding students through the informal resolution process (1:00 PM to 2:30 PM)

More and more students are choosing to resolve cases of sexual misconduct through the informal resolution process rather than participating in an investigation and formal hearing. Ann will discuss the advantages and challenges of this process; the procedural steps involved; and ways to support students who are participating in an informal resolution.

The visual design of UP’s ship-wheel logo has made it a familiar and popular campus symbol.  Combining the old and new, the most recent PortLog article from Archives & Artifacts examines the Wheel and Anchor UP logo, decoding its parts, and highlighting the continuity between the earlier and updated stylings.

It’s been a busy start to the term, especially with our unexpected inclement weather. As the campus and city have now dug out and resumed our regularly scheduled activities, we’ve begun adding new content to our Techtalk Blog for the Spring term. Leadership Book Club: Join Our Monthly Online Meetings

We invite you to be a part of a leadership book club for staff and faculty across campus. The purpose of the leadership book club is to provide a monthly opportunity for staff and faculty across campus (including graduates of the Leadership Fellows Formation Program) to connect and to support each other in our leadership journeys through shared knowledge, understanding, critical analysis, experiences, and literature. 

The Online Leadership Book Club for UP Faculty and Staff at UP will continue to meet this semester on the 2nd Wednesday of the month in February, March, April, and May at 11:30-12:30 p.m. on TEAMs. Instead of a book, we will follow a series of podcasts and articles for discussion. 

All are welcome.

Call for Proposals: Faculty Development Day—May 7, 2024

The Committee on Teaching and Scholarship welcomes creative and transformational proposals to lead Faculty Development Day on May 7, 2024, around a particular theme.

Faculty should submit a 1–2-page proposal identifying the central theme, keynote speaker, and breakout panels for session one of Faculty Development Day. Sessions later in the day may remain open as opportunities for various and distinct panels proposed by faculty across campus.

If you are interested in putting forward a central theme for the keynote and session one, please upload your FDD proposal to the FDD Moodle site by Monday February 19, 2024.

The Student Health Center is Open and Available for Primary and Urgent Care Appointments

The Student Health Center (SHC) provides full spectrum primary care services to all UP students. The SHC is in network with most major insurance companies including United, Pacific Source, Regence/Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, and others.  Available services include treatment for illness or injury, annual physicals, well exams with PAP, travel medicine, sports physicals, mental health medication management, and consultation regarding ongoing health concerns.

Appointments are available Monday through Friday. Please call 503-943-7134 to schedule.

Blanchet House: Founders and History

For over 70 years, UP and Blanchet House of Hospitality have been intertwined.  UP students were instrumental in the foundation of the Blanchet House—establishing the funding and creating a legacy of UP volunteers to ensure the continuity of their vision to make a difference in the lives of the alien, the stranger, and the dispossessed in the city of Portland (Lev. 19.13-34). That vision and mission continue to be supported by members of the UP community today. In our post on PortLog, we trace the history of Blanchet House and share its story through articles and photographs.
