Shamrock Run Time: Support Doernbecher’s!

All faculty and staff members are invited to show their UP pride and help support Doernbecher Children’s Hospital by joining the University’s Shamrock Run team. The race is on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Waterfront Park in downtown Portland. Last year the UP race team was the 14th largest in the event, with 108 runners and walkers. The team also raised $540 for programs within the UP community.

This year’s goal is to make the UP Shamrock Run team 250 people strong. As an added bonus, if at least 75 people join the team, the Shamrock Run will donate $5 per person back to support UP programs. Students, employees, alumni, Holy Cross and friends of the UP community are all welcome to join. Sign up soon; registration closes Sunday, January 31.

To join the UP team, register online at this link (choose the “team” option; the UP code is 1070). Team members receive a $4 registration discount. Packet pick-up (race t-shirts, pins, and bibs) will be at the Beauchamp Recreation and Wellness Center the week before the race.

Blessed Basil Moreau Feast Day, Spirit of Holy Cross Award, Jan. 20

All University of Portland community members are invited to celebrate the feast day of Blessed Basil Moreau, C.S.C., founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, on Wednesday, January 20, at 5 p.m., in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. Karen Eifler, co-director of the Garaventa Center, will be honored as a recipient of the 2015 Spirit of Holy Cross Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Congregation upon its lay collaborators.

The award is given annually to lay collaborators of the Congregation of Holy Cross, United States Province of Priests and Brothers. The award recognizes lay collaborators who devotedly work to make Blessed Basil Moreau’s vision and mission to “make God known, loved, and served” a reality at the Congregation’s education, parish and mission apostolates. Honorees receive a proclamation of gratitude signed by Provincial Superior Fr. Tom O’Hara on behalf of the entire U.S. Province.

David Fuentes, Nursing and Health Innovations, presented “Bridging the Skills across Human and Artificial Intelligence Coaching Strategies to Boost Peer-Coaching & Self-Coaching Skills.” Co-presenter: Dave Houglum, PhD. Lightning Session of the Catholic Higher Education and AI Conference at University of Portland. The session briefly highlighted some of the innovations concerning the use of AI in leadership coaching, practice/training, and coaching ongoing developmental growth. October, 2024. Dave Houglum, Director of Leadership Studies and Leadership Professor of Practice, Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, presented nine, one-hour invited leadership presentations for the European Leadership Programme in Brussels, Belgium. Houglum also provided individual leadership coaching sessions to many of the programme’s Fellows and to the staff of the Jesuit European Social Center (JESC). The European Leadership Programme draws emerging leaders from across Europe to participate in a five-month leadership development programme. October 12-16, 2024.
