The University of Portland Hawaii Club’s 40th annual Luau will take place on Saturday, March 19, in the Chiles Center. The popular event is filled with food, games, dance, and celebration, and this year’s theme is “Mai Poina Ka Ho’oilina (Don’t Forget The Legacy).”
Each year students from Hawai’i and their ‘Ohana (families) share their Polynesian culture and traditions with the University and greater Portland communities. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Be sure to arrive early this year to play some traditional Hawaiian games, and enjoy live entertainment from club members, with a special performance from the UP FASA Club.
Following a traditional Lu’au meal, there will be a show featuring live music, hula, and traditional Polynesian dances performed by University students.
General admission tickets (12-55 years old) are $20; student, faculty, staff, and alumni tickets are $10 (additional tickets purchased are $15); senior citizens (+55 years old) are $15; groups of 5 or more $15 apiece; children (4-11 years old) are $10; and children under 4 years old are free.
Tickets will be available March 14 – 18, in Bauccio Commons and the Pilot House, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets may also be purchased at the door on the night of the event. For more information, visit the Luau’s Facebook page or e-mail upluau@gmail.com.
