Every fall and spring the University’s science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and education faculty and students put together a Science Night event at a local K-12 school. This year’s spring event took place on Thursday, April 10, at Astor School in North Portland, and over 50 UP STEM/ED student volunteers (and three volunteers from PCC and PSU) turned out to work with kids in their respective fields. “Such a great evening full of cool sciency-like things for kids,” gushes Jacqueline Van Hoomissen, biology, who plays a vital role in organizing Science Night. “Robots, sheep brains, wetland biology, neurobiology, physics stuff I don’t really understand…I was amazed at how talented our UP students are, how willing they are to get out there in the community and do something meaningful, and their overall excitement for the event! What a great way to wrap up the semester!”
