The University has received a $15,000 grant from The Alliance and the Katherine Bisbee II Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation. The grant is to fund a project which shows a long-term benefit to the people and/or natural areas of Oregon. It will go toward the University of Portland project, “Solar Thermal Energy Production Undergraduate Student Research Collaboration.” Students from the University of Portland are working with George Fox University and Portland General Electric to evaluate innovative solar-thermal collection systems that have been optimized for the Pacific Northwest, and to educate students about the potential of solar-thermal power and water heating production. The student teams will work closely with Portland General Electric to align the long-term research goals with energy needs in the region.
The Alliance represents 18 of Oregon’s regionally accredited, nonprofit private higher education institutions. Alliance colleges and universities enroll more than 35,000 students and deliver approximately 30 percent of all baccalaureate and higher degrees awarded in Oregon.
