Mark Eifler, history, had his book, The California Gold Rush: The Stampede that Changed the World, published by Routledge.
Holly Simpson, nursing, received certification from the National League of Nursing as a Certified Nurse Educator on August 18, 2016.
Christin Hancock, history, published two articles in the special summer issue of the Oregon Historical Quarterly. The first, an introduction to the special issue is titled, “Regulating Birth: Locating Power at the Intersection of Private and Public in Oregon History,” and the second, a research article, is titled “Health and Well-being: Federal Indian Policy, Klamath Women, and Childbirth.” Both articles are found in Oregon Historical Quarterly 117:2 (Summer 2016). She also served as guest editor for the special issue.
Alice Gates, social work, was awarded a grant for $9,222 from the Council on Social Work Education’s Policy Practice in Field Education Initiative to implement a community-based research and advocacy project with UP undergraduate students during the 2016-17 academic year. The project includes work with Family Forward Oregon and five other grassroots community organizations to interview low-wage workers about their experiences related to work and caregiving. Students will be involved in data collection and analysis and will gain skills and experience in policy advocacy around paid family and medical leave during the 2017 Oregon legislative session.
