Ami Ahern-Rindell, biology, attended the January 2016 Annual Meeting of the Association of American Colleges and Universities in Washington, DC. She presented with colleagues from the Council on Undergrad-uate Research (CUR) on “Achieving an Institution-Wide Culture and Practice in Undergraduate Research.”
Rich Gritta, business, had his article, “The History of Air Carrier Bankruptcy Forecasting and the Application of Various Models: 1980-2006” published in The History of Insolvency and Bankruptcy from an International Perspective, edited by Karl Gratzer [Sodertorn University, Sweden] and Dieter Stiefel [University of Vienna, Austria], and several more recent articles on bankruptcy have been downloaded over 440 times in the past 6 months and cited over 40 times in countries such as Ireland, England, China, Brazil, Germany, India, Greece, Austria, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Nigeria, and others.

Kevin Jones, social work, presented two papers at the Twelfth International Conference on Environmental, Cultural, Economic & Social Sustainability, held January 21-23 at Portland State University. The first presentation was “The Circle of Courage in College: Integrating Native American Cultural Principles into Undergraduate Social Work Education,” and the second was “Sustainable Youth Development in Context: Promoting Equity through Youth Engagement,” with coauthor Rhen Miles.
Aziz Inan, engineering, had his article and brainteaser on the 310th birthday of Benjamin Franklin linked by Friends of Franklin, Inc., here. The organization has been studying Benjamin Franklin for three decades.
Laurie Dizney, biology, was interviewed by Utah Public Radio for research that was recently published in the journal Animal Behaviour. The research examined how loss of biodiversity affects behaviors involved in disease transmission. The interview is available on the UPR Science webpage.
Steve Kolmes, environmental Studies, and his colleague Will Focht from Oklahoma State University gave a talk last week at the International Conference on Environmental, Cultural, Economic & Social Sustainability, 23 January, 2016, at Portland State University, “A Complexity-based Supradisciplinary Approach to Sustainability Education.”
