You may remember Mae Muller from her breakout single Better Days with NEIKED and Polo G. We are happy to report that Muller is back with her Debut Record, Sorry I’m Late. KDUP was lucky enough to speak with Mae at a press conference leading up to the album’s release. Members of KDUP’s Music Department joined Mae and other members of the press for a zoom call and had a blast talking about the album. We had the privilege of asking Mae about her creative process, and how she knows a song is done.
“After the first day I’m like; ‘It’s done! It’s ready! Let’s get it out!’… and then I have to sit with myself and say ‘girl relax’”
“When you get to that point of just wanting people to hear it that’s kind of when you know”
Mae prioritizes lyricism, as she defines herself as a song writer, and not a producer.
“I won’t lie, I’m not a producer… I’m lyrics, Lyrics, Lyrics, that’s my bread and butter.”
She explains that she doesn’t focus on changing things in the production of her songs. She would rather focus on the details in the lyrics, the words that accompany the melodies.
Later in the conference, Mae recalled a hilarious story about how she was late to the cover shoot for the record, and how the president of her record label came to her house to make sure she was ok. Fortunately, she was able to get the shoot done, and had the perfect opportunity to say, “Sorry I’m late.”
Mae had a vibrant, upbeat, and invigorating energy and answered every question with a fun and joyous attitude. We have been loving her new album here at KDUP, and we can’t wait to see what she does next!
