Building Literacy with Indigenous Early Learners 

This report provided a review of the literature on culturally responsive early childhood programs and best practices in early literacy instruction for Indigenous learners. Strategies include intentional relationship building, culturally responsive teaching practices, and culturally affirming literacy development through oral language and sheltered instruction. 

Literacy Interventions

This literature review explored research-based effective literacy interventions with an elementary school focus. This research targeted interventions specifically for students of color, English Language Learners, students in Special Education, and students in poverty.

Effects of In-School Tutoring on Student Reading Levels

Data from an in-school Reading tutoring program implemented at the elementary level were analyzed to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. Trends in student achievement data and challenges facing the program were explored.

GLAD Lab

The purpose of this study is to explore the initial effects on teachers and students of participating in the GLAD Literacy Lab. The second phase of this project investigates the subsequent impact on teachers and their students’ learning throughout the academic year. All data gathered from the notes taken during the GLAD trainings, observations, and interviews were analyzed.

Best Practices and Strategies in K-12 Writing and Vocabulary Instruction

This report provided a review of the literature on best practices in writing and vocabulary instruction as part of a robust K-12 literacy curriculum.

School Library Practices, Trends, and Directions

This report provided findings from relevant academic literature that document ways that school libraries have successfully adapted to the changing needs of student library users.

Implementation Options for Systemic Writing Initiatives

For this report, researchers investigated both national and local professional development opportunities designed to help districts integrate writing instruction into multiple core subject areas. Multiple training opportunities and examples of curricula programs were presented.
