Fall
Speed Networking
Every fall UPAA hosts a Speed Networking event for future CPA eligible students (usually Juniors)specifically interested in public audit, tax, advisory positions. International and regional accounting firms and companies send representatives to briefly chat with students about their company. Generally, each firm or company sends three representatives and students are afforded three to five minutes to introduce themselves to one representative from each company in a round-robin fast-pace “pitch” setting. It is an excellent opportunity for students to get a head start on the internship and full-time recruiting process and allows students get brief personal time with a variety of companies.
Meet-the-Firms
This event held each fall in conjunction with Speed Networking. It provides a less formal spaces for student to make targeted and specific inquiries with firm and company representatives. Students are able to quickly learn about the opportunities that each firm or company offers their employees, meet alumni representing the firms and companies, and ask specific questions.
Spring
Corporate Accounting Fair
The Professional Develop (P4) program host a “Corporate Accounting” speed networking fair. A variety of companies looking to fill various accounting positions attended the fair. This exposes students a many potential internship and career opposition and is a great way to quickly “pitch” themselves to companies.
Summer Leadership Panel
Many public accounting firms, including the Big Four (Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG) offer special programs to students between their Sophomore and Junior summer. Firm recruiters form a panel to discuss these potential opportunities and answer any student questions. This event allows accounting majors interested in public accounting to get a first look at the firms in the spring before recruiting.
Speaker Series
The UPAA hosts a series of speakers each semester that address a variety of topics. Speakers are generally chosen for specific expertise they in the field of Accounting, Finance, and Information Management. The purpose of these speaker events is supplementing the academic material learned in traditional classes with real world insights. Speakers’ topic or theme range from “Internship 101” to “Complex Investment Accounting.”
