S07E02: Dynamics of the Digital Workplace

Resumes are OUT.  Brand videos, portfolios, and projects are IN.  Employers are looking for savvy grads who can tell their stories dynamically and with impact, according to Gwynn Klobes, Program Director of the P4 program in the Pamplin School of Business.  Klobes has the role of coaching students through the steps that will see them through their first job interview.

Besides speed networking, a solid Linked-In profile, and some of the other must-haves, Klobes stresses intentionality and reflection with her students, helping them dig deep so they can zero in on a work experience that will be a good fit.   Using some of the University core questions such as “Who am I” and “Who am I becoming?” as a foundation, she helps students articulate more of their uniqueness to potential employers through a variety of media.

“Students need to key in on what’s going to be asked of them. You need to be prepared for anything.”

Gwynn Klobes

In this podcast, Klobes discusses the tech tools she uses to help students prepare for many of the unknowns they might encounter and to produce solid portfolios that best represent them.  She will share samples of her students’ work and demonstrate some of tech she uses in the P4 program at her interactive UPCrossroads presentation on January 25 at 3 pm in the Digital Lab.  All are welcome.

Check out the podcast for some of the hows and whys behind the incredibly successful P4 program (an average of 94% employment within 6 months of graduation)!
