Hockey + STEM + Online Learning? Yes, Please.

Dr. Tisha Morrell knew she had a good thing with the STEM professional development workshop she planned to offer middle school teachers this summer.  She wanted to be able to include as many teachers as possible but didn’t want to limit attendance to those teachers who could drive to Portland.  Solution? Call in a little technology to make the content available and accessible to participants anywhere.

That’s right, anywhere.  In this podcast, Dr. Morrell, Director of UP’s STEM Center and professor in the School of Education, talks about how she included teachers from around the state in the four-day workshop using a simple setup of a high quality camera, online conferencing software, and a stationary microphone.  Best part, UP’s excellent faculty presenters translated their engaging, interactive content 1:1 into the online realm and got rave reviews from both face-to-face and online participants.

Listen to the podcast to find out:

  • How you can include guests and participants into your classroom from a distance
  • How to make online participants feel welcome and included
  • Benefits to live streaming workshops and other content-driven events
