Academic technology services has started production on this new podcast series that will focus on the campus-wide use of technology. The weekly UP Tech Talk podcast will be available here Friday mornings. This 15-minute podcast features new guests each week and is hosted by Sam Williams and Maria Erb.
This week our guest is Dr. Susan Stillwell, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs in the UP School of Nursing. Dr. Stillwell discusses a research project introducing Digital iPad Lab activities into her pharmacology course that yielded surprising reactions from her students. The research study was by Dr. Stillwell and Dr. Lindsay Lancaster (Assistant Professor, UP School of Nursing).
The findings were interesting…[students] were less confident that the knowledge learned in the course would be helpful in their future…and they were less comfortable using technology.
Susan presented her research at a conference recently and was able to engage many educators in discussion on the topic. She also shares what happened when she tweaked the rollout of iPads in the pharmacology classroom and got a completely different response from most of her students.
