Dr. Mike Eom, Pamplin School of Business Professor, Operations & Technology Management

What do you teach (will teach for Summer)?

I teach mostly OTM juniors, seniors, and MSOTM students in Database Management, Systems Analysis & Design, and Healthcare IT Management.  I also teach Introduction to OTM for MBA and MSOTM students.  During each summer, I teach Introduction to OTM and Healthcare IT Management.  In all my courses, IT subject matters are covered and discussed based on a full understanding of the ‘business’ (context) where technologies exist to support or enable.

What are you working on?

My research stream started with the leadership of IT leaders such as CIOs in leveraging the organization’s IT resources including technology artifacts and IT personnel and extended to a better execution of IT projects (e.g., Eom et al. 2020 published at MIS Quarterly Executives https://aisel.aisnet.org/misqe/vol19/iss2/6/).

Such extension of my research interest encompasses the impact of ‘innovative’ IT projects on the organizational performance (e.g., Jung, Eom, & Yayla 2022 at Information Systems Management http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/10580530.2022.2031352).

Now coupled with my teaching in healthcare IT management focusing on the use of electronic medical records (EMR), I am currently working on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in the current care model and how healthcare organizations better strategize the use of AI in collaboration with healthcare industry partners.
