One of the things I’ve been considering is how important our corporate culture is to how we conduct business and work together, whether we’re in an office together or working remotely during the pandemic. Lam Research added two new core values last year: agility and inclusion & diversity. These and the rest of our core values are the bedrock of our culture and govern how we behave and engage with colleagues, customers and partners.

Demonstrating Agility: A big part of our success as a company is our ability to stay agile, and execute with speed, flexibility, quality and purpose as our industry and the expectations of our customers evolve. It’s important to challenge ourselves to think about what is changing for our customers and the markets we serve, and how we can best respond to those shifts to unleash the power of innovation. It’s also important to distinguish speed from haste and to distinguish between speed to making decisions, vs. speed to providing solutions. This supports other core values including continuous improvement and innovation, and achievement.

Embracing Our Culture of Inclusion and Diversity: Surging chip demand is fueling enormous growth in our industry. The global semiconductor market is widely forecasted to reach $1 trillion by the early 2030s. To put that into perspective: it took more than 50 years for the chip industry to reach $500 billion – it will take only 10 years for it to grow by another $500 billion. The opportunity before us is tremendous, but it comes at a time when widespread labor shortages are affecting companies across every industry. At Lam, we believe diversity and inclusion will play a crucial role in our ability to reach and retain untapped talent pools. By prioritizing DEI in our industry’s recruiting and workforce development strategies, we demonstrate to our current and future workforce that we value their diverse experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. In creating a more welcoming and inclusive culture, we will increase our ability to collectively attract, retain and develop the best talent and support Lam’s success.
