I am currently interning with the Portland Timbers Soccer Team in the Accounting and Administration department. As an intern for the Portland Timbers, I am also working with the Portland Thorns, USL PRO Timbers 2, as well as the U-23 squad, which I answer questions about on a daily basis while at work. However, my tasks at my internship range from greeting people in reception, answering phone calls, entering expenses into QuickBooks, transferring money within different financial institutions, occasionally send out game tickets, and sometimes I’m even on the field during the game with the Events & Promotions department. I do a lot of different things and it requires me to know the important roles each employee contributes from each department.

Being that I’m a sports fanatic and an accounting major, I feel really passionate about my internship experience with the Portland Timbers. Some of the work can get tedious, but I really enjoy being in the team environment that the Timbers create. It is such a passionate crowd and some of my favorite moments come when I’m down on the field during game time. I also enjoy the people that I work with; they are always there for me when I need them, which helps me do my job better.

I’ve learned many valuable lessons as an intern, such as the importance of professionalism within the business field, attained the skills to manage QuickBooks efficiently, understand the relationship between sports and accounting and finance, learned how a sports team works and all the things that go into making a professional team successful.  But, most importantly, I finally understand that you can’t know everything and that it’s okay as long as you learn from it.
