Wordstock is a literary art and education nonprofit organization that supports and celebrates writing in the classroom and in the community and is currently accepting applications for their summer internship position. The Festival Intern would play a key role in putting on the festival that involves 15,000 anticipated attendees, over 100 authors, and over 150 exhibitors. In addition to gaining experience in the mechanics of event planning, the Festival Intern will have the opportunity to penetrate the literary, publishing and nonprofit arts arenas.
Key areas of responsibility:
• Support the Festival/Events Director
• Assist with Exhibitor sales, relations and coordination prior to and during festival.
• Assist with Festival Guide design, content, advertising sales, layout, production & distribution prior to festival.• Assist with Author booking, relations, travel and programming prior to and during the festival.
• Think creatively and quickly to respond to impromptu promotional opportunities
• Assist other Wordstock departments for copy, design and data entry needs, such as fundraising (donor acknowledgment and stewardship), online communications, etc.
• Participate in staff and planning committee meetings as needed
College credit can be arranged through the intern’s university. Wordstock’s Marketing Intern will report primarily to Wordstock’s Festival Director, Katie Merritt, but will also take direction from Wordstock’s Executive Director, Nancy Ellis. The intern consults regularly with staff (Katie, Nancy and Kelsey Greco) and with Wordstock’s volunteer planning committee.
Term: 3-6 months (year-round on a rolling basis); 10-25 hours/week
The 2013 Wordstock Festival will be October 3-6 at venues throughout Portland, OR.
