A letter from a Drama major seeking writing contributions for a theater project invested in making change
Hi! I’m Annie Ganousis, a junior Drama major, and many of you may have already seen the email about the culmination project ActUP is trying to do for next semester. I just wanted to give a little more info to inspire any of you who are interested in contributing.
Basically, what we’re trying to do is make a devised theater piece inspiring people to be positive, in whatever form that means. Whether it be by encouraging them to love themselves and others, or inspiring them to be more accepting of themselves and others, we just want to try and make a change of attitude within the people who witness this project. Personally, I know four people who have committed suicide from my hometown in the month of October alone. Four. That was enough for me to want to tell everyone I know that they are loved, they are important, and they are vital to the world. Now, you may have different experiences and this project isn’t solely based on suicide prevention, but I think we can all think of negative experiences that have made us stop and think about how we treat one another and ourselves.
With that said, we are asking anyone who is struck by this concept of positivity to create something, anything, that we can put on stage and hopefully inspire our audience to change their attitudes. Poems, songs, short stories (fiction or non-fiction), scenes, dance pieces, literally ANYTHING you want to make that sends a message of positivity, hope, and love. We will do the work in making it a cohesive performance art piece, but first we need lots of raw material to work with!
Please help us on our mission to spread light and love to the UP community!
Any submissions can be sent to bradley14@up.edu by JANUARY 1ST, 2014.
Any questions you may have or clarifications or just spitballing sessions, feel free to contact me at ganousis15@up.edu or Jordin at bradley14@up.edu.
THANK YOU!! And I can’t wait to see what we come up with 🙂
PS. There are talks of this becoming a collaboration with Gregory Pulver and Nicole Luepp-Hanig as a sexual abuse/discrimination prevention cause as well, so if that topic is something that is to your liking, run with that!
