Fifty-seven teams entered the 2015 AICPA Accounting competition and our team from the University of Portland finished second, held recently in Durham, North Carolina. The UP students’ finish earned a $3,000 award for the University, and the team received a $10,000 award to be split among team members.
The team called NorthWest Accountants consisted of students Isaac Mansuetti, Lance Chee, and Connor Ward, all juniors, and UP accounting Professor Ellen Lippman, who served as faculty advisor. UP accounting teams have entered the competition twice, taking first with a team of four seniors in 2013 and now, second place finish with three juniors in 2015.
During the second stage of the competition the students considered developing an app for the toy market as part of their assignment. They reached out to Alexander Libkind, CEO of Appsolute Media in New York for some advice. Mr. Libkind was very happy to learn that the team came in second place.
“I am very excited for UP’s NorthWest Accountants team and their 2nd place finish. I am glad that we at Appsolute could help them think through the AICPA case and give them pointers on how to understand the business mechanics behind creating an mobile application versus a physical product. Appsolute and the winning team felt that the synergy between a physical product and a mobile application was the best way to empower the target company and enhance their existing market position. Congratulations for a job well done.” – Alexander Libkind, CEO, Appsolute Media www.appsolutemedia.com
We congratulate Isaac, Lance and Connor on their hard work, dedication and winning 2nd place in the nation.
