There comes a point during someone’s tenure in college where suddenly all the work they’ve been doing seems overwhelming. The homework begins to pile up; important tests are looming on the horizon. How do we get through it all?
The answer is – take a breath! The next step is to realize you’re not alone. Whether you’re in the business school, college of arts and science, or in engineering – it doesn’t matter. There will always be more tests to take and more essays to write. Remember that you are a smart individual and divvy up your time as needed. And though Facebook and Tumblr are great sources of distraction, don’t let yourself get too tied up in them. The internet is great but so is the real world.
I often hit a wall after midterms and feel panicked, like I can’t seem to find any footing despite having made it over halfway through the semester. It’s easy to get frustrated. Take ten minutes for yourself and just let the stress roll off of your back. Find what works for you and when you feel the sense of disorientation taking over, go back to the place where you feel calm and collected.
Accounting homework is important as well as business law and the huge entrepreneurial innovation project you’re working on – but don’t drive yourself crazy over it. Go to campus events! Attend a soccer game, mingle with new people at a club meeting and hit up a Pilots After Dark event. College is important but so is your mental health.
My advice to everyone reading as well as myself is to take a little time in your day today and relax, rejuvenate and get back to work!
