Nonprofit Q&A:
What are you doing now as an Alum?
I am currently Major Gifts Officer for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. It’s a role that I am proud to serve in. With a personal connection to MS in my family, this provides me an opportunity to make a difference in the MS movement by helping others maximize their impact through significant philanthropy.
Why did you choose UP Pamplin for your graduate degree?
UP was innovative in the field by providing a premiere nonprofit management degree. Even more appealing was the opportunity to take both nonprofit based courses alongside traditional business classes to acquire a well balanced education that would serve me in not only working at an organization but also leading within it.
How are you using the MBA?
There are countless ways in which I utilize my MBA from UP, from budgeting skills gained in the first year accounting principles course to the creativity that came from the social entrepreneurship lessons. More than anything though, I lean heavily on the wisdom gained from being in a close knit cohort full of inspiring people. Throughout my various roles, I have recalled the diverse career experiences that members of the cohort brought to our courses and allowed it to shed valued perspective on my work at hand.
What advice would you give to someone considering continuing their education?
It is worth exploring how much more good you can do by addressing the knowledge gaps you have and being open to growing exponentially – There is more to know and grow from than you can imagine. I remember clearly that for our group, even those with substantial experience expanded their skills in each semester.
